The aim of this course is to provide learners with a thorough understanding of sourcing, procurement and purchasing. It provides learners with an appreciation and understanding of strategic sourcing, and the issues, decisions and techniques associated with this.
1. Concepts and practices of procurement.
At the end of this module, learners will be able to critically evaluate the relationship between procurement and purchasing; explain the different activities involved in the procurement process; and critically analyse centralised and decentralised procurement processes.
2. Strategic sourcing, issues, decisions and techniques in procurement.
At the end of this module, learners will be able to evaluate cost related issues relevant to sourcing decision making; compare different sourcing alternatives and its application to different businesses; and d etermine various behavioural factors that impact on
sourcing and dealing with customers.
3. The role of technology in procurement and purchasing.
At the end of this module, learners will be able to evaluate the role of technology in enhancing the procurement and purchasing process in organisation; examine the role of e-procurement in the purchasing management of organisations and critically analyse key challenges and benefits of using e-procurement in organisations.
